Pelli Tower Seville
The Torre Sevilla is the first skyscraper in the Spanish city of Seville. At its base is a shopping centre with two buildings and a central thoroughfare. Next to the tower is the CaixaForum.
The project was promoted by the savings banks El Monte and Caja San Fernando, which agreed to merge in December 2006 to form the savings bank Cajasol, which would be operational in 2007. The savings bank was integrated in March 2012 into Caixabank, the current owner of the tower.
The tower was designed by the Argentinian architect César Pelli and was completed in 2015. Forming part of the same complex is a shopping centre and the CaixaForum, designed by Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, completed in 2017. With 43 floors,6 and a structure mostly made of concrete and glass. The tower has an elliptical shape and is illuminated at night.
The tower has a home automation system managed by Siemens. The building was also awarded Leed Gold certification by the US Green Building Council.
The complex is located above an underground parking area with capacity for 3,066 cars and 400 motorbikes.
It has a total height of 180.5 metres.
This major project posed two challenges:
- The waterproofing of the roof that crowns the tower.
- The sloping podiums that form the landscaped roof over the car park and development.
TOP COVER OF THE TOWER
The difficulty to solve this waterproofing was due to the great height of the tower. In order to be able to successfully project our ACE PU-100 system, the machinery had to be lifted up to the roof with the help of the super cranes on site.
Once on the roof, it was a piece of cake. This roof was made of concrete and an aerial metal structure supported by profiles that were embedded in the concrete of the roof itself. It was very easy to solve these joints with our system as it offers advantages over conventional systems such as:
- Total watertightness
- Continuous sheet without joints.
In short, a success.
ROOF OF THE PODIUMS
In order to resolve a green roof with a guarantee, the system chosen must overcome several conditioning factors and if it is also a sloping roof, as is the case with the Pelli Tower, it is even more complicated.
All this added to the fact that the speed and deadlines of the work are very demanding, obliges us to have systems that can be executed quickly and put into service immediately, certified and contrasted.
Another very important handicap resided in resolving the transfer and spreading of all the ballast materials on the waterproofing to make the garden roof.
In order to carry out this operation, it was necessary to use medium-heavy machinery travelling over the waterproofing. Thanks to the great resistance of the ACE coatings membranes this operation became simple.
The ACE system chosen to solve these roofs was the GARDENED ROOF. Our green roof system is certified for resistance to root penetration according to UNE-EN 13948:2008.
